The Onalaska girls basketball team rode a huge first quarter to a 65-26 win over 1B Naselle on Thursday in a non-league matchup at home.

The Loggers (1-1) outscored their guests 31-5 in the first eight minutes, and held them to single digits in each of the remaining three quarters.

“We came out hot in the first quarter, with a lot of defensive pressure, and it helped spark our offense,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said.

Two freshman did the heavy lifting across the statsheet for Onalaska. Emalie Jacoby led it scoring with 14 points and also had seven steals, seven assists and five rebounds, while Sommer Zurinskas came in at 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, led the way on the glass with seven rebounds, and also had four steals.

Jaycee Kinsman had 10 points and four boards, eighth grader Leighton Underhill added nine points and senior Cierra Berg had eight points and five rebounds.

Onalaska will play at Mossyrock on Tuesday.
