Loggers bounce back with blowout

The Onalaska football team only needed about a quarter to get any lingering bad tastes out of its mouth Friday, rolling to a 60-0 rout of Stevenson in non-league play Friday.

“We were really pleased with how these guys responded after a tough week last week,” Onalaska coach Mazen Saade said. “I thought our offensive line blocked a lot better than they did last week, and understood their assignments, and defensively we played a lot better.”

Kayden Mozingo got the scoring started two of his three touchdown runs coming in a 30-point first quarter, along with a 34-yard strike to Cooper Lawrence. The Loggers (5-2, 1-1 C2B South) added three more touchdowns in the second quarter, and led 54-0 heading into halftime.

Rodrigo Rodriguez added two touchdowns and led the Loggers with 266 yards on 11 carries. Mozingo finished with 134 yards on six carries, finding the end zone as many times as the Bulldogs were able to stop him.

Freshman Eli Srnka, who scored Onalaska’s lone touchdown in the second half, racked up 64 yards of his own.

As a team, the Loggers ran for 573 yards, while on defense they held the Bulldogs to minus-2 on the ground, and two total first downs in their final home game of the regular season.

“It was a big senior night win for us,” Saade said. “It’s always nice for our seniors to get a senior night win. Some of these guys have been playing since third or fourth grade, and this could be the last time they play at home. It was good to get a win for them at Memorial Field.”

Onalaska will be on the road next week, at Onalaska in a divisional clash.
