Loggers Build Up Steam in Win over South Bend

Posted

After a slow start, the Onalaska girls basketball team pulled away from South Bend on the road Thursday, 54-20 in its final tuneup before the holiday break.

The Loggers shot just 32% from the field, and made four threes, but a ferocious defense and opportunistic offense that didn’t make a ton of mistakes eventually took advantage. The Loggers hauled in 42 rebounds as a team, headlined by Callie Lawrence and Morgan Hamilton’s eight boards a piece.

Just two players were in double figures, Hamilton and Brooklyn Sandridge with 13 points, but eight players made it in the scorebook.

“It was a slow start,” coach Alana Olson said. “But we tightened up our defense in the second half and found our rhythm.”

The Loggers held South Bend to just seven points in the second half, and not a single made field goal in the fourth quarter, and turned the ball over just nine times in the win.

Ony will take on Raymond for its next matchup on Dec. 29.
