The Onalaska girls basketball team battled against Ilwaco on Saturday, but fell in the first round of the 2B District 4 Tournament to the Fishermen 58-41.

“The girls played really hard today,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “But we had far too many turnovers and mental mistakes to beat a team like Ilwaco.”

The Loggers (10-12, 5-8 C2BL) trailed by six after one, but Emalie Jacoby helped them steal the momentum in a big way in the second. The freshman guard scored 10 points in that frame, and Onalaska took a one-point lead into the locker room.

Jacoby added six points in the third, but the Fishermen were able to stifle the rest of the Onalaska offense, retaking the lead while doing so.

The game got away from the Loggers in the fourth, as Mikaila Warfield helped Ilwaco ice the game with 10 in the fourth quarter. Warfield led the Fisherman with 29 points, while Brooklyn Avalon scored 20.

Jacoby finished with 22 to lead the Loggers, while Jaycee Kinsman added 11.

“This was a tough loss,” Olson said. “But we will get back to work on Monday and be ready for whichever opponent we face on Thursday.”

On Thursday, Onalaska will take on the loser of the Toutle Lake-Forks quarterfinal at Castle Rock.
