Loggers keep pace atop standings with sweep of Mountaineers

In one of the most highly anticipated C2BL contests this season, the Onalaska High School volleyball team brought out the brooms and posted a 25-15, 26-24, 25-20 sweep versus Rainier on Thursday night at home.

Now it all lines up for Onalaska and Toledo on Monday night when the two clash for the league title. Yet Loggers head coach Susan Gordon has been amazed with the unselfishness of her group.

“Tonight was a big match for us and we came out and just really played well,” Gordon said. “We got up and just really controlled the net.”

Onalaska (12-1, 5-0 C2BL) saw its star Emalie Jacoby step up once again with a triple-double of 22 kills, 14 assists, 17 digs plus six aces. Ellie Jacoby led the back row with 20 digs and Capri McGraw, the former libero, had 11 kills in her transition to a hitter role.

Both Emalie Jacoby and McGraw had hitting efficiencies north of .700.

“She has started to understand the position,” Gordon said of McGraw. “Seeing this part of her game advance this season has been huge for the team.”

Braelyn Babb recorded 25 assists for Onalaska plus Sommer Hammer fired four aces. For Rainier (13-3, 3-2), it is the first time it's been swept all season; the two sides met in the non-league and Onalaska won in five.

Allyson Ooms had 16 kills, 13 digs, and a block, and Ellie Pringle added 14 digs, eight kills, and two aces.

Lexi Beckman finished with six kills, six digs, and two blocks, and Courtney Eckroth tallied 32 assists, 11 digs, and a pair of aces.

The Mountaineers close the regular season with senior night on Monday against Adna.
