Loggers lose tight one to defending champs

The Onalaska girls soccer team held its own far from home Saturday, losing 1-0 to Okanogan in Yakima.

The defending 2B state champions scored the match’s only goal in the 35th minute, but aside from that, the Loggers (3-2, 1-0 C2BL) played the Bulldogs even. Goalkeeper Hailee Brown made five saves on six shots on target — all but two of which came in the first half.

After the break, the field tilted more in Onalaska’s favor, and the Loggers racked up four shots of their own, finishing with six that were all saved.

Jules Auman had three shots for Onalaska, while Leighton Underhill and Payton Reaves both had four clearances to lead the way on the back line. Kaiyah Sandridge made nine interceptions.

Onalaska will come back to this side of the mountains and resume league play next week, hosting Ilwaco on Monday.
