Longtime Pe Ell School teacher and athletic director Keith Shepherd will serve as the school’s interim principal for the 2024-25 school year, Pe Ell School announced this week.
Shepherd, who was the dean of students last year, took over the principal position from former Principal Brandon Pontius, who started at Pe Ell School in 2016.
Shepherd started at Pe Ell School in 1998 as a middle school math and science teacher. From there, he transitioned to teaching fifth grade, which he taught for five years before teaching high school history and P.E. He just taught P.E. for some time before moving to middle school social studies.
Shepherd has also been a coach for Pe Ell middle and high school students for the last 25 years, the last 12 of which he has been Pe Ell School’s athletic director.
