About 10 hours after two Portland police officers were shot and injured near Lloyd Center Monday night, the Police Bureau said the suspect remains at large.

The search of the area where the shooting occurred is over, but “this remains an active investigation, and detectives are continuing to gather information and follow leads,” police said Tuesday morning.

Officers responded at 8:21 p.m. Monday to a call reporting a threat with a weapon, police said. The officers came upon the suspect – described as a white man in his 30s with facial hair, a black baseball cap, a black jacket and a gray hooded sweatshirt – on Northeast Clackamas Street between 16th and 17th avenues.

The officers were fired upon moments after making contact with the suspect, police said. The Police Bureau did not say whether the officers fired their weapons.

Dozens of police units raced to the scene after the shooting, and officers blocked off multiple streets in the area to conduct a search. Residents in the area were instructed to remain in their homes with their doors locked.

The injured officers, who have not been publicly identified, were taken to an area hospital, where they are in stable condition and recovering.

The suspect is believed to be armed and should not be approached, police said.
