A man was arrested on first-degree burglary and assault charges over the weekend after he allegedly broke into a Chehalis apartment on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and stabbed a man reportedly convicted for molesting a girl in 2015.

Officers with the Chehalis Police Department were dispatched to an apartment in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard after a caller reported someone had broken into his neighbor’s apartment, according to documents filed in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, Oct. 2. While officers were on the way, a man called to report someone, who he identified as Devin Pavone Doyl, 22, of Chehalis, “tried to stab him” with either a knife or a screwdriver, according to court documents.

In an interview with law enforcement, the man said he had answered the door to his apartment and saw Pavone Doyl, who had a “bandana over his face,” “breathing heavily” and acting “like he was going to come towards him.” The man advised he “pushed (Pavone Doyl) back,” at which point Pavone Doyl allegedly “came after him ‘heavier,’ lunged at him, and tried to stab him in an underhand motion,” according to court documents.

The man’s neighbor then reportedly opened his door, distracting Pavone Doyl, “which gave (the man) enough time to shut his door,” according to court documents. Pavone then allegedly “exclaimed something about (the victim) being a pedophile” and left the scene.

The man reportedly sustained a “small puncture wound to his stomach” from the assault.

The Chronicle has confirmed via court documents and previous reporting that the victim in this case was arrested and charged in Lewis County Superior Court in 2015 for allegedly molesting a girl under the age of 12 known by Pavone Doyl. The Chronicle was unable to confirm the outcome of that case through court records, but the victim told The Chronicle the man was convicted on child molestation charges and served a six year prison sentence before he was released late last year.

In his interview with Chehalis officers on Sept. 27, the man stated, “Mr. Pavone (Doyl) most likely has pent up rage related to the fact that (the man) molested (the girl),” according to court documents.

Chehalis officers were unable to locate Pavone Doyl on Sept. 27, but did find him near the 150 block of Market Boulevard the night of Friday, Sept. 29, and arrested him.

While he was being handcuffed, Pavone Doyl allegedly said to the officers, “What, so I can’t try and kill a pedophile, but you guys can?”

Jail records indicate Pavone Doyl was booked into the Lewis County Jail at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Sept. 29. He has since been charged in Lewis County Superior Court with one count each of domestic violence first-degree burglary and domestic violence first-degree assault. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Bail was set at $100,000 over the weekend and Lewis County Superior Court Judge Yoely Yeagher affirmed the bail amount Monday, calling the allegations Pavone Doyl’s criminal history, which includes a recent domestic violence second-degree assault conviction, “very concerning.”

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5.
