Seattle police are searching for a man they suspect struck an officer while driving a stolen SUV Thursday afternoon in Queen Anne before driving to South Lake Union, crashing into a car and fleeing on foot.

The Seattle Fire Department treated the officer at the scene for a minor hand injury, said Seattle Police Department spokesperson Detective Eric Muñoz.

Detectives have not publicly identified the driver.

Multiple people called 911 at 1:39 p.m. to report seeing a man slumped over behind the wheel of a running SUV that was stopped in the parking lot of a Whole Foods at 15th Avenue West and West Newton Street. The callers said they were knocking on the window, but the man would not wake up, Muñoz said.

The man woke up when officers arrived and tried communicating with him. He seemed disoriented and started trying to drive away. Shortly after, Muñoz said the man struck one of the officers as he drove out of the parking lot, heading south toward Denny Way.

Another person called 911 sometime before 3 p.m. to report seeing the man hit a car about 2.5 miles southeast near Terry Avenue and Virginia Street. The caller said the man got out of the SUV and ran away, Muñoz said.
