A 54-year-old man was found dead inside his cell at the Snohomish County Jail in Everett on Sunday morning, authorities say.
The man was found unresponsive just before 10:15 a.m. by a corrections deputy who was assisting a nurse with medication, the Snohomish County sheriff’s office said.
The cause of the man’s death is unknown. It will be determined by the Snohomish County medical examiner’s office and later will be announced, along with the man’s identity.
The death is being investigated by the sheriff’s office major crimes unit, the office said, and an independent “unexpected fatality review” will also be conducted to “examine the death from a clinical standpoint.”
The man was booked into the jail on Thursday, by the Everett Police Department; he was suspected of possession of a controlled substance and of violating a Stay Out of Drug Area order.
