A woman suspected of crashing her car into a man as he sat under a tree, killing him, was arrested Monday, Vancouver police reported.

Luella F. Roberson was taken into custody soon after the crash.

Police arrived at the 2100 block of Northeast Andresen Road in Vancouver just after 1:00 p.m. Monday to conduct a welfare check on a man under a tree. The man was already dead when officers got there, Vancouver police said.

Nearby, officers found an unoccupied vehicle they believe was connected to the man’s death. Police dogs discovered Roberson near the scene of the crash, and officers arrested her.

Officers soon obtained video footage that showed a woman wearing “distinctive clothing” leaving the scene, police reported.

Roberson is being held at Clark County jail and faces vehicular homicide and other likely charges, according to Clark County jail records.

Vancouver police have not publicly identified the man who died in the crash. Detectives are still investigating the incident.

Roberson is due to appear in court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
