A man was shot early Sunday in the 9400 block of Martin Way East, according to Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders.

About 3:30 a.m., Sanders and deputies were called to investigate a shooting in the area, the sheriff said in a social media post.

The first deputy at the scene found a man with a gunshot wound in his leg. A tourniquet was applied and the victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to Sanders.

Narcotics, shell casings, and bullet fragments also were found at the scene, Sanders said.

Martin Way East was closed during the investigation.
