A 41-year-old man died by suicide in Clark County’s jail on July 29, Medical Examiner’s officials said.

Curran E. Fine, a volunteer firefighter from Vancouver, was facing a charge of first-degree arson after a fire burned the home of a friend he’d been living with, court records show.

A probable cause affidavit filed by prosecutors states that the house fire happened on April 29, amid an ongoing conflict between Fine and his friend over Fine’s alleged use of meth amphetamine in her home.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded to put out the blaze. Court records don’t say how extensive the damage to the house was.

At the time Curran was booked into jail, officials said he didn’t have a history of mental illness or suicidality, court records show.
