Olympia police are seeking more information after a man was found assaulted in west Olympia Sunday night.

"It was a rather vicious assault," Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.

About 11:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Cooper Point Road Southwest, near the Haggen supermarket.

A passerby saw the man in the store parking lot and called 911, Lower said.

The man had lacerations across his face and upper body and also appeared to have been hit multiple times with a blunt object, Lower said. As police tried to talk to him, he appeared to fade in and out of consciousness, he said. They did not find identification on the man, although they think he is about 20 years old, Lower said.

Police do not think he was assaulted where he was found, but somehow had managed to walk to that location, Lower said.

The man was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia in critical condition and underwent surgery, Lower said.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
