Mason County Sheriff's Office: Suspect set off explosive devices while driving

Posted

A suspicious explosive device was found Friday in a neighborhood called Star Lake, according to the Mason County Sheriff's Office.

Star Lake is north of Elma and west of Shelton.

Deputies were dispatched and determined the device was an improvised explosive device, or IED, the Sheriff's Office said in a social media post.

"Local residents notified responding units that three other explosives were set off in the residential neighborhood within the previous 12 hours," the post reads.

The Washington State Patrol bomb squad responded and conducted a controlled detonation to render the device harmless.

"The investigation determined the suspect was setting off the devices from their vehicle as they drove through the community," the post reads.

The State Patrol is working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI to "further document the explosive," according to the post.
