Centralia College will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, near the statue honoring student-veterans on campus, between the Hanson Building and the Kirk Library.

The event is open to everyone, a news release from the college stated.

“We want to invite the community and Gold Star families to attend this meaningful event,” said Joshua Pickett, president of the Associated Students of Centralia College and a veteran. “The ceremony coincides with the final day of our campus SpringFest celebration, and it’s a wonderful way to come together to observe Memorial Day.”

Two student-veterans, Robert Cruize and Will Franklin, will be the featured speakers. Representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will present the colors and Hyewon Kim, Centralia College’s choir director, will sing the national anthem.

There will be a 21-gun salute included in the ceremony. Seven individuals will fire three times, so students and neighbors should expect to hear three loud blasts after 11 a.m. on May 22.

Following the ceremony, Centralia College’s Diesel Tech Club will grill hamburgers and hot dogs. In addition, the campus will have SpringFest activities.

Centralia College is closed Monday, May 26, for the federal Memorial Day holiday.
