Merle E. Rolfe, known to many as “Tuff,” passed away in his home May 29, 2021, from complications related to his six year long battle with multiple myeloma cancer and heart disease. He was born June 6, 1955, to parents, Charles and Esther Rolfe.
Merle was raised by his mother, with a lot of help from his grandparents, Glen and Irene Stover of Centralia. He loved the farm life. School was not his focus, as he went to work early to help his mom and his siblings.
Merle married Patricia Rolfe Feb. 18, 1979, and enjoyed 42 years together. They had two children, daughter, Kristina “Krissy” (Aaron) Wright of Olympia, Wash.; and son, Jesse Rolfe (deceased). He had two grandchildren, Noah and Nai’a Wright.
Merle loved his family, God, this country, old cars, camping trips, trips to Reno, the beach and gardening. He loved to attend family and community events, and was a devoted grandpa. He retired from Weyerhaeuser after 32 years.
Merle was known for his kind heart and his encouraging words. He will be greatly missed, but we find comfort knowing that we will meet again and that he’s happy to be reunited with his son, Jesse Rolfe.
Graveside service will be held June 7, 2021, at 2 p.m., at the Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia, with a reception to follow.
