Middle-inning surge propels Toledo past Toutle Lake

A seven-run fourth and a three-run fifth were enough for Toledo in Toutle on Monday, where the Riverhawks topped Toutle Lake 10-5.

The game was scoreless through three before the Riverhawks’ bats got going at the plate, and Toutle Lake scored four of its five runs in the same two frames.

A two-run double from Ellie Seely and a two-run home run from Taysia Miller capped the fourth inning, and runs on a Toutle Lake error, a sacrifice fly, and a groundout helped Toledo push the lead back to seven after an initial response from the Ducks.

Seeley finished with two hits and two runs batted in, and Miller, Peyton Holter and Audrey Cooper also logged two RBIs each.

Zaya Norberg added two hits and scored twice, and Kailea Lairson reached base four times with a double and three walks.

Holter pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits and five runs, though only two were marked as earned. She issued just one walk and struck out 13.

Napavine also won, which locks Toledo into the C2BL’s No. 3 seed in the upcoming district tournament. The Riverhawks will play in the first round of the tournament next Monday, May 11, in Centralia, but first, they’ll end their regular season with home games against Woodland and Onalaska on Tuesday and Thursday.
