With the completion of a recent expansion project, on Monday, March 9, area residents are invited to the grand reopening ceremony of the Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank, starting at 11 a.m., according to a Mineral Lake Lions Club news release.
The Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank is run in partnership with the Mineral Neighborhood Christian Center, Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest.
“This milestone marks a monumental achievement for the Mineral community and reflects a powerful collaboration between the Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank, the Mineral Lake Lions Club, Lions Clubs International Foundation, contractor Andy Hayden of AYC LLC, and countless volunteers, donors, and community partners,” the release stated. “While rooted in Mineral, the food bank serves families not only throughout East Lewis County, but also neighboring communities and surrounding counties.”
The food bank’s expansion enables it to better respond to regional food insecurity and meet increasing demand for food banks across rural areas where resources are limited.
Added in the expansion were upgraded refrigeration and freezer spaces and increased dry storage rooms aimed at ensuring more fresh and perishable foods can be safely stored and quickly distributed to those in need.
“This project represents more than construction,” said Steve Mayer, Mineral Lake Lions Club president and District 19N hunger chair, in the release. “It represents hope, dignity and our shared commitment to ensuring that no neighbor — near or far — goes hungry.”
The expansion was funded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation along with local matching donations and volunteer labor. The Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank is located at 116 Front St. W. in Mineral.
