Missed Shots Sink Beavers in Loss to Grizzlies

Missed free throws and layups proved costly for Tenino as the Beavers were handed a 58-42 road loss to Hoquiam in a 1A Evergreen League game on Wednesday.

“We played hard, we just shot ourselves in the foot,” Tenino coach Joe Chirhart said. “We missed some layups that would have given us some confidence. That Hoquiam team is scrappy, but we played hard and battled.”

The Beavers found themselves in a rut early on, falling behind 18-6 in the first quarter, and were never able to mount a comeback. Most of that had to do with poor shooting as Tenino was 9 of 30 from the field and a dismal 6 of 24 from the charity stripe.

Hoquiam, meanwhile, was scorching the nets from long range, knocking down nine 3-pointers to keep the Beavers at bay.

Tenino was led by Noah Schow’s 19 points, which included five 3-pointers, while Takari Hickle added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Tenino (5-5, 1-1 Evergreen) heads to Columbia Adventist Saturday for a non-league matchup.
