Missing 27-year-old Mallory Barbour, of Bothell, was found dead in a timberland area of Mason County last week, nearly three months after she was last seen, the Mason County sheriff's office said Thursday.

Her death appeared to be a homicide, the office said. Her body was found near Highway 3 and Pickering Road on Sept. 15.

Barbour’s body had been there for an “extended period of time,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

Barbour was last seen June 24 at her home in the Pioneer Hills/Morningside area of Bothell, police said in July. Her family and friends said it was out of character for her to be away from home for so long without contacting them.

Bothell police said in July there was no evidence at the time that Barbour was the victim of a crime or that any harm had come to her.

“However, we are concerned,” the department said then in a post.

The Mason County sheriff's office is asking anyone with information that could assist their investigation to contact Detective Matt Ledford at 360-424-9670, extension 844, or email detective@masoncountywa.gov.
