Morton Man Accused of Breaking Into Woman’s Home, Threatening Her With Firearm

Bail has been set at $100,000 for a Morton man accused of breaking into a woman’s house and threatening her with a firearm on Saturday.

The woman reported she was in bed Saturday night when she “heard something at the back door” and when she got out of bed to see what it was, the suspect, identified as Caden R. Turner, 25, met her in the hall.

The victim advised “she had a bolt on her door,” which Turner allegedly kicked in.

When he confronted the victim in the hallway of her home, Turner allegedly “got in her face because he was mad at her for blocking him on social media,” told her “that if she called the police she would regret it” and then pulled a black pistol out of his sweatshirt pocket, according to court documents. He allegedly “lunged for her phone when she pulled it out” to call her father, at which point the victim ran outside.

Turner allegedly followed her outside, threatened to have someone “beat her every day of her life” and “pulled the gun,” according to court documents.

Turner reportedly left the scene when the victim called the police just before 10:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers with the Morton Police Department reportedly confirmed the lock bolt mechanism on the victim’s door was bent and noted Turner tried to call the victim’s phone “several times” while they were taking the victim’s statement.

Turner was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 16.

He was charged Monday with one count each of first-degree burglary, third-degree malicious mischief and harassment. Each charge carries a domestic violence enhancement.

During Turner’s preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, Deputy Prosecutor Scott Jackson noted children were reportedly present in the home when the alleged crimes occurred and cited “(the) very concerning manner in which these crimes were committed” as reason for requesting high bail.

While defense attorney Rachael Tiller asked for bail to be set no higher than $50,000 due to Turner’s financial situation and the fact that he has no prior criminal history, Judge Joely Yeager granted Jackson’s bail request, saying “there are very serious allegations” and “I think the state’s request is warranted here.”

Yeager also approved a no-contact order protecting the alleged victim.  Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, April 20.
