Morton-White Pass blows out Ocosta to remain unbeaten

Despite four days without practice due to flooding, the Morton-White Pass girls basketball team impressed on Saturday, dominating Ocosta in a 55-31 victory in Morton for their fourth straight victory.

It was the first time the T-Wolves had taken the floor since topping Kalama in Randle on Monday because flooding in the area caused White Pass to cancel school from Tuesday through Friday.

There was no rust on the court, though, as MWP built a 10-point lead in the first before pushing it to 18 at the break. In the third, the T-Wolves outscored the Wildcats 21-6 to take a 33-point lead into the final frame.

“We just shot really well today,” MWP coach Tim McCoy said, while also noting that defensively, the T-Wolves were able to have success in man despite not playing it much to this point in the year. “They’re learning how to switch in the screen and role, and they did pretty well.”

Maila Armstrong led MWP with 17 points, while Ryelin Wiedenmann added 15. Layna Sams scored nine, and Chevy Fuller tallied six.

It’ll be another difficult week next week for the T-Wolves, who will play four games in five days. It starts on Tuesday with a home matchup against Tenino.

“We’re looking forward to getting at it,” McCoy said.
