Morton/White Pass blows out Winlock to secure postseason spot

T-Wolves to play in district pigtail on Friday

WINLOCK — Ahead of Monday’s matchup in Winlock, Morton/White Pass coach Derek Bowen approached his dugout with a simple message.

“We want this one.”

The urgency in his voice more so indicated that the Timberwolves needed this one, and if they wanted to play postseason softball, they did.

With a spot in the district pigtail game on the line, Morton/White Pass answered the call, putting together a spectacular offensive performance in an eye-popping 38-12 victory.

“I’m super excited for them,” Bowen said. “They responded well. We have a couple of things to clean up, but they played really good.”

That aggression started early, when Kendall Ingalsbe hit a three-run double to get the T-Wolves on the board.

That was the first of many RBI knocks for MWP, which scored 12 in the second, six in the third, 10 in the fourth, and four in the fifth.

Every batter in the Morton/White Pass lineup scored at least three times, including Alyssa Kampa, who had the biggest hit of the day with an inside-the-park home run in the fourth.

“I was proud that they came out aggressive at the plate today,” Bowen said. “We try to be aggressive at all times.”

In the circle, Brooklyn Montoure pitched all five innings, striking out eight in what Bowen called “one of the better outings” of the season.

“I thought she pitched well,” Bowen said.

With a postseason berth secured, the Timberwolves (6-9, 1-6 C2BL) can now shift their attention towards ending the regular season with some momentum.

They’ll have plenty of chances to do so, as they are set to play up to three more games before their pigtail matchup on Friday.

The final stretch will begin with a home matchup against Naselle in Morton on Tuesday before a trip to North Beach on Wednesday. After that, the T-Wolves will return to Morton to host Adna on Thursday before playing either North Beach or Ilwaco in the pigtail on Friday.

If their pigtail opponent ends up being North Beach, Wednesday’s game will be cancelled. If it’s Ilwaco, MWP will play five games in five days.

“We’ve got a really busy week,” Bowen said with a laugh.”

Winlock (1-14, 0-7 C2BL) will host North Beach on Tuesday and Rainier on Thursday before finishing its season with a trip to Aberdeen to face Wishkah Valley on Friday.
