Mossyrock fire station to host open house on upcoming levy lid lift proposal

With Lewis County Fire District 3 placing a levy lid lift proposal on the upcoming November ballot, firefighters invite the Mossyrock community to an open house on Saturday, Sept. 30, to learn more about the proposal and the district’s needs.

If passed, the proposition would raise District 3’s regular property tax levy from 38 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to 90 cents per $1,000 of assessed value for collection in 2024, with annual adjustments for the following five years not to exceed 8 percent, subject to statutory limits.

For an average home value of $300,000, the estimated increase would equate to a total of $270 per year. This is an increase of $157 per year, or roughly $13.14 per month, according to District 3.

The same proposal failed by just 24 votes, 309 to 285, on the August primary ballot.

“The district's proposition (in) the August primary election did not pass but had a low voter turnout,” Lewis County Fire District 3 stated in a news release. “In hopes of a higher voter turnout, the district is proposing in the upcoming November election that the current general levy lid to be lifted.”

Mossyrock community members are invited to meet with the Mossyrock Firefighters Auxiliary for hamburgers, hot dogs and discussion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Lewis County Fire District 3 Station 1, located at 238 Mossyrock Road, Mossyrock.

More information on the levy proposal is available online at https://mossyrockfire.com/ and https://elections.lewiscountywa.gov/current-election/.

Ballots for the Nov. 7 general election are scheduled to be mailed by Oct. 18.
