Points were hard to come by for the Mossyrock girls basketball team in its game against Willapa Valley on Monday, but the Vikings made sure they were harder for their hosts to find in a 35-20 win.

“It’s always a competitive game playing against Valley,” coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “Getting a win down there is always nice.”

Willapa Valley managed just nine points in the first three quarters, with Mossyrock (10-6, 6-0 1B CVL) building up a 21-6 lead by halftime and an 18-point lead going into the fourth.

Kendall Cournyer led the guests with 12 points, nine of which came in the second half, and Abbie Lovan had seven.

Chesney Shultz and Renzy Marshall both logged five rebounds, with Marshall coming away with six steals on defense.

The result keeps Mossyrock undefeated in 1B Columbia Valley League action. It also benefits Pe Ell, which now holds sole possession of second place in the league with Valley taking a loss. Mossy will face the Trojans in a battle of first and second on Friday.
