A Mossyrock man is facing felony charges for allegedly raping a girl multiple times over a span of three years.

The victim reported the sexual assault to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 1, 2023, according to court documents. In an interview with a detective and a sexual assault advocate, the victim said she had been in a sexual relationship with the defendant, identified as Reid Conrad, 30, of Mossyrock, from the time she was 14-year-old through when she turned 17 years old earlier this year. She stated she ended the relationship in May of 2023 and said “Looking back at the relationship, she realizes how she was taken advantage of and used by Reid Conrad,” according to court documents.

When questioned by a detective on Friday, Aug. 25, Contrad reportedly admitted he was friends with the victim “but denied having sex with her,” according to court documents. The detective noted there was a point in the interview where Conrad said the victim “had made sexual advances toward him but he rebuffed her” and another point during the interview where “Conrad appeared as if he was going to cry,” according to court documents.

Conrad was arrested at the conclusion of that interview and has since been charged with two counts of third-degree rape of a child.

Conrad reportedly “asked to smoke a cigarette prior to being booked into the jail,” and the detective allowed him to do so outside.

When he was escorted outside, Conrad allegedly “rushed to his car in an attempt to get inside and lock the doors,” but the detective “was able to stop him,” according to court documents.

Deputy Prosecutor Scott Jackson noted Conrad’s attempt “to run when talking to the detective” as a cause for concern during a preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, Aug. 28.

“I’m not sure if he was trying to flee or do something else, but that’s what I took from it,” Jackson said, asking Judge James Lawler to set Conrad’s bail at $100,000.

Defense attorney Rachael Tiller asked Lawler to set Conrad’s bail no higher than $25,000, citing a lack of failure to appear offenses on his record and the fact that most of his criminal history is juvenile offenses as well as family support present in the courtroom on Monday.

Lawler ultimately set Conrad’s bail at $50,000 and granted Jackson’s request for a no contact order protecting the victim.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31.
