A motorcyclist died after colliding into another vehicle in south Thurston County on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. by the intersection of Reeder Road Southwest and 137th Trail just south of Maytown, Lt. Cameron Simper told The Olympian.

Deputies and medics responded to collision, but Simper said the motorcyclist died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, which was a Honda CRV, was uninjured, he added.

Both drivers were adult males and the only occupants of either vehicle, he said.

The cause of the collision remained under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon. Simper said he could not share additional details about the victim because he was still awaiting a report on the incident.

However, Simper did share a preliminary understanding of how the collision occurred. He said it appeared the motorcyclist was traveling south when it struck the driver side door of the Honda CRV.

Simper said the driver of the Honda CRV was turning north onto Reeder Road at the time of the collision. Deputies do not believe this driver was intoxicated, he added.

The roadway was closed for about two hours after the collision, Simper said.
