Mount Rainier National Park staff are currently looking for rental properties either within or adjacent to the national park due to limited housing in the region, according to a National Park Service (NPS) news release.
Housing for park staff is needed for the spring, summer and fall months of 2025, and the park’s housing office is looking to expand housing opportunities for seasonal staff to include apartments, homes or recreational vehicle (RV) trailers.
This is the second year park staff have had to seek and receive additional funding to support this effort according to the release.
The park houses approximately 240 permanent and seasonal employees during the busy summer season.
“Mount Rainier National Park continues to search for solutions for housing issues that affect the park’s ability to attract new employees,” Mount Rainier National Park Superintendent Greg Dudgeon said in the release. “We were pleased to be selected to participate in this leasing program that could both support adjacent communities and provide supplemental housing for employees during our busiest seasons of the year.”
For those with property in the region interested in leasing to park employees, some requirements include homes and apartments having a separate bedroom and bathroom from the landowner, and ideally at least two bedrooms and one bathroom.
Homes and apartments must also have full-sized kitchens and smoke detectors, though fire suppression systems are preferred.
RV pads must have water, sewer and electricity connections, and must be able to accommodate a minimum of a 40-foot by 12-foot RV.
All properties must also be located within 50 miles of Paradise within Mount Rainier National Park and be available to lease from March through November 2025.
Landowners must also register at https://sam.gov/ prior to lease signing.
“The park’s housing office will coordinate all aspects of the leasing agreement and payment process,” the release added.
Those interested in leasing to park employees can reach out to the park’s housing office at 360-569-6232 for more information.
