The Rainier boys basketball team rebounded from a loss on Wednesday, getting back in the win column with a 64-38 win over Onalaska.

The Mountaineers (12-5, 7-3 C2BL) came out strong, scoring 35 points in the second while limiting the Loggers (3-10, 1-8 C2BL) to just 20. The second half was more of the same, as Rainier pulled away for a convincing win.

Four Mountaineers finished in double-figures, led by Josh Meldtrum with 16. Johnny Boesch added 14, Jake Meldrum scored 12, and Peyton Sheafer tallied 11.

Blaze Underhill led the Loggers with 17 points, while Nick Rushton scored 10. Brodey Triana and Ethan Thayer added seven each.

Rainier and Adna are currently tied for third in the C2BL standings, one game behind Wahkiakum, and the two teams will meet again on Friday in Rainier. The Mountaineers took the first matchup in Adna last month, their first win over the Pirates since 2008.

The Loggers are still within striking distance of a district spot, but they’ll need to finish strong, starting with a trip to Kalama on Friday.
