The Rainier boys basketball team pulled away from Mossyrock late Saturday, beating the Vikings 63-43.

The Mountaineers (4-1, 1-0 C2BL) led five points at halftime, but then outscored their guests by 15 in the second half, thanks in large part to a 22-point fourth quarter.

We were really pleased with the way we took care of the ball down the stretch handling Mossyrock's pressure,” Rainier coach Bean Sheaffer said. “Mossyrock is very well coached and they threw a lot of looks at us.”

Josh Meldrum led all scorers with 18 points, but Jimmy Boesch and Jake Meldrum joined him in double figures with 15 and 14, respectively.

Lens Bigbee scored 12 points to lead Mossyrock in its first loss of the young season.

Rainier is set to play Onalaska on Tuesday. The Vikings (3-1, 2-0 1B CVL) will host Naselle on Tuesday in a rivalry matchup.
