Mountaineers keep Riverhawks quiet

The Rainier girls basketball team held Toledo to just about nothing offensively in three of its four quarters on the road Thursday, dropping the Riverhawks 42-22 in a Central 2B League clash.

The Mountaineers (17-1, 9-1 C2BL) rolled out to a 26-7 lead at halftime, before the Riverhawks (11-8, 5-6 C2BL) scored 12 of their points in the third quarter.

Bryn Beckman and Angelica Askey did the bulk of just about everything statistically for the Mountaineers, scoring 15 points apiece. Beckman added 10 rebounds for a double-double and also had three assists and two blocks, while Askey posted five steals and five assists.

Ellie Fallon led the Riverhawks with 11 points and five boards, while Stefani Arceo-Hansen had 11 boards and four steals and Kailea Lairson had eight rebounds and four steals.

Rainier is set to host a high-stakes rematch with Adna on Friday; the Mountaineers dealt the Pirates their only loss of the season so far back in December, and another win would all but assure them of a first-round bye in the district tournament.

Toledo is already staring down the end of the regular season, and will cap it off in Morton next Wednesday.
