The Rainier softball team didn’t need long to top Wahkiakum on Thursday, as the Mountaineers defeated the Mules 18-1 in four innings.
The Mountaineers (6-5, 2-1 C2BL) took a four-run lead in the top of the first, and they piled on 11 more in the second and three more in the fourth for good measure.
Ryleigh Cruse had a stellar all-around day, allowing just four hits and one run in four innings in the circle and also hitting a home run and two doubles to drive in three at the plate.
Brooklynn Swenson finished a perfect 4 for 4 with two triples and two doubles, tallying five RBIs and scoring four times in the win. Keira Anderson also went 4 for 4, including a pair of doubles, and she drove in three and scored four times.
The Mountaineers will head to Toledo for a doubleheader on Monday. The first match will be a league game, but the second is a non-league contest.
