Several people were injured in a string of shootings on Interstate 5 across Pierce and King counties.

The first shooting was reported at northbound I-5 near 320th Street in Federal Way where a passenger was injured. A second was on northbound I-5 near I-90 near Seattle where another passenger was injured, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said on X at 9:27 p.m. on Monday.

A third took place on northbound I-5 at Martin Luther King Junior Way South in Seattle. The shooter's vehicle for the first shooting was described as a white Volvo with California plates, Johnson said.

Another shooting took place at southbound I-5 near state Route 18 in King County, Johnson said at 1:34 a.m. on Tuesday. Two people were injured, Johnson told The News Tribune. The last shooting happened in Pierce County at southbound I-5 near 54th Avenue in Fife. One person was injured.

Johnson said the white Volvo was connected with the last two shootings. There were no updates on the victims' conditions.

More information was expected to be provided later Tuesday, Johnson said.

Fircrest police arrested a 44-year-old man in Pierce County.

The Tacoma Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, University Place Police Department, Puyallup Police Department and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department assisted with locating the alleged shooter's vehicle.

University Place deputies were dispatched to assist WSP with contacting the alleged shooter at 11:09 p.m. on Monday. Deputies contacted the man at a home at the 8500 block of 22nd Street West. They checked for his vehicle, but it was not in the area, according to a news release.

A Pierce County deputy saw the man's vehicle at 12:15 a.m. pull into the Boulder Apartments on Westridge Avenue West. When backup arrived, the man drove out of the apartments. Deputies followed the vehicle to 19th Street West where a Fircrest officer had set up stop sticks, the release said.

Once the man's vehicle ran over the sticks, it came to a stop and a felony stop was initiated. The alleged shooter was compliant and taken into custody.
