The Napavine girls basketball team dropped a road contest against King’s on Friday, falling 56-42 in Shoreline.

The Tigers kept it close in the first half and into the third quarter, only trailing by six entering the final frame, but they were outscored 17-9 in the fourth.

“We played hard for three quarters,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz. “The great thing about playing a team like King’s is they make you have to execute and compete for four quarters … The girls came out with a lot of energy, and I was proud of our effort.”

Hayden Kaut led the offensive effort with 13 points, and she also brought down seven rebounds and nabbed four steals. Sophia Bittner scored 11 points to go along with a pair of boards.

Hannah Fay and Taylen Evander both added five points, and Evander also tallied three rebounds and three assists. Nicholle Valentine and Ava Ondong both pitched in four points.

It’s the second year in a row that Napavine has lost to King’s, but like last year, Schutz said that the Tigers will be better off for having faced them.

“We will continue to grow from playing this quality of a team,” Schutz said.

Napavine (1-1) will look to get back in the win column at home against Tumwater on Wednesday.
