The Napavine girls basketball team responded from a loss earlier in the week with a win on Thursday, as the Tigers defeated Onalaska 59-46.

The Tigers won all four quarters, slowly building onto their lead after a 20-point first.

Napavine coach Shane Schutz said that Jessie McCoy provided a “huge spark” offensively with 21 points, while Hayden Kaut added 16 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and three steals.

Taylen Evander and Hannah Fay both scored six points, while Ava Ondong and Nicholle Valentine added four apiece. Evander added seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, and Valentine came down with eight rebounds.

One of the biggest differences in the game came at the free-throw line. Onalaska went just 3 for 11 from the stripe, while Napavine sank all 14 of its attempts.

“That was huge for us in a game like this,” Schutz said.

Emalie Jacoby led the Loggers with 29 points, including 16 in the first quarter, and she also tallied five rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocks. Leighton Underhill added six points, and Renzy Marshall scored two points and hauled in eight rebounds.

Both teams will return on Saturday, as Napavine (13-5, 4-2 C2BL) will head to Toledo and Onalaska (14-4, 3-3 C2BL) will host Toutle Lake.
