Napavine’s engines get going as Tigers blow out Kalama

Behind 42 total points in the second and third quarter plus some standouts defensively, the Tigers had their way with the Chinooks in a 62-18 thrashing on Friday night at Chinook Stadium.

The brief 7-6 lead for Napavine after the opening quarter turned one-sided in a hurry. Quarterback Beckett Landram had four of its six touchdowns in that stretch while Pono Moniz-Taitague and Dean Hamilton had the others.

In total the Tigers (2-1) finished with 276 rushing yards. Landram had 75 on nine carries plus Moniz-Taitague and Brody Mitchell went above 60.

“We’re kind of a slow starting team,” Napavine head coach Josh Fay said. “Like an old diesel pickup truck that takes awhile to warm up. Once it gets going, it runs pretty well.”

Fay mentioned Tommy Deebach has a stout defender at middle linebacker and the d-line trio of Wyatt Colbert, Sawyer Dewitt and Kyler Caywood were impactful. Fay added he felt Dewitt had one of his best weeks of practice.

“There were a couple good matchups and our guys were better up front,” Fay stated. “Those guys are doing exactly what we’re asking.”

The Tigers will take on 1A Tenino on the road next Friday night to close their non-league part of their season.
