Night closure of state Route 507 near Bucoda set for Thursday, Sept. 28

Travelers will need to plan for a night closure along a short segment of state Route 507 south of Bucoda this week, the Washington state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced Monday.

The closure will begin 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, and end at 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.

A signed detour will direct northbound traffic around the closure via state Route 507 through Centralia. Southbound travelers will use Old Highway 99 in Tenino.

During the closure, travelers will have no access through the work zone, according to WSDOT.

Before and after the closure, the existing speed limit will be reduced from 50 mph to 35 mph at state Route 507 between milepost 7.95 and 7.96. The temporary speed reduction will remain in place until the roadway is repaired. The speed limit will be enforceable as soon as signs are installed.

The closure will allow WSDOT contract crews to excavate both directions of the highway and replace a deteriorating culvert, according to WSDOT. The highway will reopen using a temporary surface, with workers to return later to complete paving the roadway.

“The repair helps keep the highway in good working order,” WSDOT said in a news release.
