Nighttime lane and ramp closures along I-5 coming between Olympia and Maytown

Posted

Starting Thursday, travelers going from Olympia to Maytown will see nighttime road work on Interstate 5.

The paving project will require I-5 to be reduced to one lane. Two separate work zones will cover approximately 12 miles of pavement repairs.

Starting at 8 p.m., travelers will see several rolling slowdowns as crews move equipment across southbound I-5 to reduce lanes. Motorists cannot pass construction vehicles during this process. Rolling slowdowns are conducted for the safety of travelers and construction crews.

From 8 p.m. weeknights to 7 a.m. the next day, paving work will be done on southbound I-5 from north of Plum Street in Olympia to south of 93rd Avenue in Maytown and exit and on-ramp closures will start at Trosper Road Southwest.

People can generally expect work to continue each weeknight, according to a Washington state Department of Transportation news release.

When an exit or on-ramp is closed, travelers will be directed to the next closest ramp. Once southbound I-5 is complete, crews will work in the northbound lanes.

Nearby businesses and residents may experience increased night construction noise. Grinding and paving is unavoidably loud. Crews will work quickly and efficiently to minimize disruptions. Crews will return in late August to add lane markings. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled. This is one of seven paving projects that will preserve the existing highways for years to come.
