History Talks continue at the Schmidt House in Tumwater, with the next one set to be held at noon Thursday, Nov. 5.
In this history talk, stamp collector Gerry Smith will present a program on commerce routes to Olympia in the 19th century, with a focus on mail routes and contractors. Smith’s talk will run from the Hudson’s Bay Company and the Cowlitz Corridor through steamboat travel on Puget Sound.
Smith has collected stamps since he was a young boy, and his adult passion is the Railway Mail Service and Railway Post Office mail. His talk will be illustrated with many examples of early mail to Olympia.
Attendance is free. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. It is first-come, first-seated until room capacity is reached.
The Schmidt House is located at 330 Schmidt Place SW, Tumwater.
