No injuries were reported from a house fire in Rochester started by a heat lamp early Wednesday morning.

Crews with the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority were dispatched to the fire just before 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday, at which time the homeowners were already battling the blaze with a garden hose to try and prevent the fire from spreading.

“Thanks to working smoke detectors, the family was alerted to the fire from a heat lamp used for warming their pet,” wrote the fire authority in a Facebook post about the incident.

The residents evacuated when fire crews arrived at the scene to finish containing the fire. Crews also conducted a search to find and evacuate the pet.

“The pet is safe with the family now and damage was contained with minimal damage to the kitchen and back porch,” wrote West Thurston Fire.

The fire authority reminded resident to turn off any heat lamps or outdoor heaters before going to bed at night.
