The Northwest Fastpitch Foundation and Northwest Futures Fastpitch League, associated with Lewis County-based softball organization The Yard PNW, will host their annual Community Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 21 at Wheeler Field in Centralia.

This family friendly evening will include a showing of the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” under the stars, as well as concessions and a gift card dash. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the gift card dash begins at 8 p.m. The movie will begin at dusk.

Admission is $10 per person, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the Northwest Fastpitch Foundation to help provide scholarships and create opportunities for youth to participate in sports throughout the Pacific Northwest.

For the gift card dash, local businesses donate gift cards, products, services or sponsorship funds. During the Community Movie Night, guests will purchase dash tickets and race onto the field to grab the gift card of their choosing.

During its first two years, the Northwest Futures Fastpitch League has served 353 athletes from across Southwest Washington and funded more than 50 participation scholarships. Fundraising has also helped provide games, development camps, and equipment.

Movie-goers will be seated on the grass, so attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs.

The Northwest Futures Fastpitch League is a developmental league dedicated to empowering young female athletes and their families. Developed by experienced female athletes and coaches who have competed at the highest levels, the program was created as an affiliate of the Alliance Fastpitch Futures League and is the first of its kind in the Northwest.
