Oakville School District upgrading football field and track, will not compete at home stadium this fall

Although the Oakville-North River Acorns will not be able to compete at their home football stadium at Oakville High School this fall, the Oakville School District (OSD) announced that progress on the athletic field and track renovations has been made in bunches.

Superintendent Rich Staley provided an update to the OSD Facebook page, where he shared that crews are installing a new rubberized track and updating its football field to add LED lights and a sprinkler system. Staley indicated that the new track will be completed in the next three to four weeks, and, eventually, Oakville will be able to host track and field meets.

The Acorns will play four home games this fall, with the home opener against Wahkiakum scheduled Friday, Sept. 26 at North River High School in Cosmopolis. The following three home games — set for Friday, Oct. 3, Saturday, Oct. 25, and Friday, Oct. 31 — will be played at the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation’s Tomahawk Stadium in Oakville.

“The Chehalis Tribe has been super generous, and they’re going to give us a field in Tomahawk Stadium in the outfield of that baseball stadium,” Staley said. “It’s big enough to handle a football field. We’ll still be home. We’ll still be in Oakville proper. We’ll just be out on the reservation. Super grateful to Dustin Klatush and Chuck Burnett for making that happen.”

The Acorns will be led by first-year head coach Camren Bowes in 2025.

These renovations are part of a significant revamp of Oakville High School’s athletic facilities, as upgrades to the baseball and softball fields were completed in time for the 2025 spring season. The school district also recently painted its gymnasium.
