Community members in the Chehalis River Basin are invited to the Washington state Department of Ecology’s Office of Chehalis Basin’s (OCB) “get to know the Chehalis Basin Strategy” webinar on Sept. 20, according to an OCB news release.

The webinar will run from 6 to 7 p.m. on Zoom. Those interested in attending must register online at https://www.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_sud8bI-fTqSjz_T9Umq-Ag

A live, Spanish interpretation of the webinar will also be available.

OCB staff are holding the webinar to better explain the basics of what the Chehalis Basin Strategy entails.

“The Chehalis Basin Strategy is a network of partners and projects who are working to make the Chehalis Basin a safe, healthy and plentiful place to live for people, fish and wildlife,” stated the release. “OCB is offering this webinar for the community to come together, learn and ask questions.”

Washington legislators created the Chehalis Basin Strategy in 2011 to both stop declines in salmon population and protect communities from major flood damage.

Since 2011, a total of $152 million has been invested in the completion of 140 projects throughout the basin. The projects benefit both residents and aquatic life, according to the release.

This webinar is part of an ongoing series hosted by OCB that have covered other topics, including Skookumchuck Dam study findings, the OCB’s Aquatic Species Restoration Plan, the flood alert system and flood assistance resources for residents.
