Offices and Measures Set for the Lewis County August Primary Election

The Lewis County Auditor’s Office has released a list of the Lewis County offices and propositions that will appear on the ballot for the Aug. 1 primary election. 

Voters will only see the offices and propositions they are eligible to vote for on their ballots. Only races with three or more candidates appear on the primary ballot. The top two vote-getters in the primary will advance to the November general election. 

All offices are non-partisan. Candidates for each office are listed in the order they appear in the voters’ guide.

City of Centralia 

• Council Position 1, at-large, four-year term: Steven Hubbard, Chris Brewer, Russell Barr 

• Council Position 2, at-large, four-year term: Kelly Smith Johnston, Leah Daarud, Joyce Barnes, Anthony Ahrens

 

City of Morton 

• Council Position 1, four-year term: Jason Sawyer, Dennis Morningstar, Aubrey Grantham

 

City of Winlock 

• Council Position 3, four-year term: Shelly Allen, Eric Contreras, Jodie Curtis

 

Castle Rock School District No. 401 

• Director District 4, at-large, four-year term: Levi Godinho, Gary Stoner, Tracy Morgan

 



Chehalis School District No. 302 

• Director District 5, at-large, four-year term: J. Vander Stoep, Julie Balmelli-Powe, Matt Fagerness, Anthony Mixer

 

Eatonville School District No. 404 

• Director Position 4, at-large, four-year term: Corey Ackerman, Karen Carr, Kim Williams

Toledo School District No. 237

Lewis County Fire District 6 — Chehalis/Adna  

• Commissioner Position 3, six-year term: Gregory Greene, Ken Cardinale, Abraham Meyer

 

Lewis County Fire District 3 — Mossyrock 

• Property Tax Levy for Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services: Request to set the district’s regular property tax levy rate at 90 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2023 for collection in 2024. The proposition would also allow the district to keep pace with inflation by establishing an annual growth factor based on the greater of 4% or the annual consumer price index identified, but not to exceed 8%. At the end of the 6-year period, absent further voter approval, the district tax levy rate in the final year will be subject to statutory limitations.

 

Lewis County Fire District 5 — Napavine 

• Property Tax Levy for Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services: Request to establish the district’s regular real property tax levy rate at $1.20 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2023 for collection in 2024. The dollar amount levied in 2023 shall serve as the district's tax levy base and in 2024, absent further voter approval, the tax levy will be subject to the statutory 1% limit. The district's current levy is approximately 50 cents per $1,000.00 of assessed valuation. 

 

Cowlitz-Lewis County Fire District 20 

• Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services Property Tax Levy: Request to establish the district’s regular real property tax levy rate at $1.35 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2023 for collection in 2024. The dollar amount levied in 2023 shall serve as the district's tax levy base and in 2024, absent further voter approval, the tax levy will be subject to the statutory 1% limit. The district’s current levy is approximately 41 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
