Onalaska holds off Hoquiam in grind

The Onalaska girls basketball team did enough of the dirty work to offset a rough shooting night Monday, beating 1A Hoquiam 35-27 in a non-league contest.

“It wasn't a great offensive game, but I was really proud of how hard the girls worked tonight,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said, “They showed heart and grit.”

The Loggers (5-9, 1-5) only shot 23% from the field as a team, but held the Grizzlies to just five field goals of their own in each half.

Cierra Berg led the offensive effort with 13 points, and also had seven rebounds and five steals. Emalie Jacoby ended up with 10 points, six swipes and five assists, while Kiley Talley came a bucket shy of a double-double with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Onalaska gets right back to Central 2B League action Tuesday at Kalama, then hosts Winlock on Thursday.
