Onalaska holds off Pe Ell for first win

The Onalaska boys basketball team took advantage of an ice cold start by Pe Ell to toll to its first win of the season in a non-league matchup Saturday, 48-35.

The Trojans (3-5, 3-1 CVL) connected on just two of their first 25 shots from the field, and the result was just four points in their column after a quarter and 10 at halftime.

“We are not going to win many games shooting that poorly,” PL Chris Phelps said. “We had great looks underneath, but struggled finishing. We were executing okay all game, but our confidence was down and simply could not recover.”

Going into halftime up by 10, the Loggers (1-4, 0-2 C2BL) did enough offensively to keep the lead at a comfortable spot, building it up to 13 by the end of the third quarter.

Justin Jacoby led all scorers with 14 points for Onalaska, while freshman Ethan Thayer came in right behind him on 13.

Ten separate Trojans found the bottom of the basket, but the only one to score more than five points was Silas Edgar, who finished on eight.

Onalaska will return to Central 2B League play Tuesday at home against Winlock, while Pe Ell will take on Oakville in another non-league matchup Wednesday.
