A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder/domestic violence after a man, 39, died in a shooting northeast of Olympia Monday night.

That’s according to Thurston County Jail information and the Sheriff’s Office, which reported that deputies were dispatched about 10:30 p.m to the 4400 block of Libby Road Northeast after a report of a disturbance with shots fired.

A man had called 911 and reportedly told dispatchers that he had just shot and killed someone because they were attacking his roommate, according to information released by the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning.

Inside the residence, deputies found the man who died in the shooting. Deputies also encountered a man and woman standing outside the home, according to the updated information.

Detectives later determined that there had been an argument between the two men, prompting the 31-year-old to arm himself and fire several rounds at the man who died.

The 31-year-old suspect was set to appear in Thurston County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.

“There is no active threat to the public as it relates to this investigation,” Sheriff’s Office officials said in a social media post.
