O’Neill, Hamilton Dominate at Net for Tigers in Win

Though second and third ball errors again plagued the Napavine volleyball team, the Tigers were able to overcome that with some stellar play at the net in a four-set win over Wahkiakum in Cathlamet, 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23.

Keira O’Neill had 22 kills and two block kills in the win, and senior Morgan Hamilton added a double-double with 14 kills and 19 digs.

“They were fed a lot of balls tonight, but they were really zoned in on their hits and hitting their spots,” Tigers coach Monica Dailey said of O’Neill and Hamilton. “Wahkiakum didn’t know where they’d be hitting.”

Avery Schutz and Jessie McCoy were the ones doing the feeding, dishing out 19 and 15 assists, respectively. Schutz also added 10 digs.

In the back row, Emily Kang continued her strong play with 24 digs and Grace Gall added another 14.

Though, the Tigers still have plenty to work on. After a dominant first set win, Napavine let Wahkiakum get back into it with second and third ball errors that didn’t go its way.

“We came out firing on all cylinders, and after that, we quit talking,” Dailey said. “That second set we let it get away from us, and then we started talking on the last 10 points in the third and fourth set.”

The Tigers will hope to remedy their errors as they take on unbeaten league-leader Kalama on the road Thursday.
